The first Brown & White site launch

It’s an exciting day for Mr Brown and I, we’ve just launched our first site since forming Brown and White Creative at the end of last year.

We worked closely with illustrator Andy Ward to create a site that would really compliment his illustrative style. We began by designing a template that would become the structure for the site then handed the designs over to Andy, so he could fill the spaces with his work and treat some of the type, such as the navigation, with fonts he had created himself.

This method worked extremely well and we were thrilled when Andy told us we’d really inspired him with our ideas for how he could use the space. Once Andy had created the artwork Rebecca Vaughan took the reins and brought his illustrations to life with some beautiful flash animation.

We’d like to thank everyone who worked on the site and we hope the new site brings Andy lots of luck (and work) in the future! Take a look at andyward.co.uk

Merry Christmas Deer

Christmas is coming, it’s snowing outside and I’ve made a little paper Christmas deer! But I’m kicking myself because I can’t remember where I saw the calendar that inspired it. I’ll keep looking and hopefully it will come back to me.

You can download my A4 template (PDF)  if you’d like to make your own, they’d do a great job as name cards on the Christmas dinner table.I’d recommend printing on heavyweight paper if you have some, otherwise they might be a little bit too flimsy to stand up, and that would be sad!

Merry Christmas!!

New markers

I’m testing out my new Letraset Promarkers, and I’m quite impressed, considering they’re at the lower end of the market. The colours are good and the pens flow well and blend quite smoothly. I’m thinking about buying the rest of the set. I like sets.

Please hold

We have a Brown and White holding page! A special mention for Rich, who spent ages in Illustrator tidying up the outlines, well done sweetie. Full site coming soon (depending on how busy we are)…

On Chromeography

I took a few shots of a Morris Mini Minor back in the summer. I didn’t think too much of them at the time but Rich submitted one to Chromeography, a site full of beautiful chrome lettering and they’ve added it to their collection.

New things

A couple of months ago I decided that as much as I absolutely loved my job at Soup it was time to get out of my comfort zone and try something new. Freelancing is hopefully going to give me all the excitement I’ve been craving. So I might not get paid next month but I’m meeting new people, trying new things and learning to stand on my own two feet. Of course I’m terrified! Wish me luck!

A freelancer needs a portfolio and I chose Cargo for mine, it was really easy to customise and I love its simple, clean aesthetic. Take a look! (and thanks to Phil Clandillon for the Cargo tip)

And fly away has a nice new template to match, I didn’t mind my old one but when I upgraded wordpress lots of things stopped working and I realised there was no way I was going to be able to fix it!

So there you have all my news, well nearly, I’m also in the process of setting up a company with Mr Brown – Brown & White Creative (we didn’t have to think about that very long, my name is White, his name is Brown!) – it’s mostly so we can invoice together as he’s freelance too. We have a ton of things to get on and design, including our site, as well as actual work to do of course, but I don’t mind at all!
